Long couple of weeks coming up…

•August 25, 2009 • 1 Comment

So, these past couple of weeks have been a little rough. There have been a few positive things, such as my grandma’s 70th birthday party (a surprise one, too – she loved it!). We had all of the family in London to come down for it, along with a lot of her long-time neighbours/friends, and some of the ladies she worked with at Sears. It was at ProBocco (sp?) – a delicious Italian restaurant on Ottawa that my Uncle Ciro’s cousin owns. The food was amazing, the waiters were great, and my grandma had a great time. Lots of gifts, a big party, tonnes of love? Who wouldn’t be happy? She gave a nice speech of thanks (with many tears from her – and a few of us too!) and though Papa couldn’t be there next to us, enjoying the evening, we knew he was looking down at us, and really wanting some tortellini!

Also, I got most of my school supplies, my parking pass, and a few textbooks, so my wallet is feeling a lot lighter – I still don’t have everything =x. I even got a cool blue-square-shaped “white” board, with an “I <3 you lots” from Dillon already written on it, and a Nightmare Before Christmas pencil case with Jack Skellington on it, for like 5$ – kinda lame, I’m sure, but I love it anyways – it’s Tim Burton, I’m allowed to own it. It seems like it’ll be a pretty good semester though. I’m still hoping to get into Shakespeare I with Dr. Johnston, but I know if I don’t I can always try again. My other courses are: Introduction to Geomorphology (Rocks for Jocks), The Modern Novel and Theatre (a French Literature course for my minor), Modern British Literature, Introduction to Psychology as a Social Science, and Contemporary Literary Theory. Seems like a pretty good lineup, though I think I may have trouble paying attention for a few – but I have to, I need to get my marks up around an 11 or 12 on the UWindsor scale, so I can be very impressive towards the UofT admissions people, and they let me into their pretty school <3.

Work has been decent; I have not had an overwhelming amount of hours, but I could be doing worse – I really hope that I can keep the hours I have now (around 25-30/wk), or get even more during the school year, because I do have the time to work that many, and I really could use the money.

On some less positive notes, Dillon is moving to his parents’ place in Brantford tomorrow morning (Wednesday), and so today will be the last day I see him for quite some time – I will email/ call a lot, but it’s just not the same. We’ll be fine though, because we both have plans to do a lot of things to keep busy. Plus, I know I’ll see him during the breaks between his school sessions (he’ll have a few days off, so one of us shall travel to the other), and he hopes to come down during Christmas break, or if he can’t I’ll try to come up before I’m back in school. I won’t see him on his birthday, because I have classes then, but we’ll work something out – I have long weekends all year – 3 days of school, 4 day weekend =D. Then he’ll be back down in March – if he can find a job here – and he’ll be here all summer, until I hopefully go up with him next August to go to the University of Toronto together – or Western, or McMaster.

Also, my Aunt Kathy passed away Sunday night in her sleep. We had just found out that she had cancer, after she fell and became paralyzed from the waist down. Her health had been slowly declining, so we all kind of knew that it would happen eventually, but we were hoping for later, rather than sooner. Regardless of expecting it, it’s still very sad, and we all miss her very much, though we know she is in a better place, and not in pain anymore. We’re having a wake for her Saturday afternoon, but I don’t believe we’re having a funeral – if so, it will be just the family that she lived with (my aunt Simonne, uncle Marcel, and all the kids).

Not the best of weeks, not the worst of weeks – just a long, endless parade of things I wish never had to happen, and things I hope won’t happen again. No more people leaving me, and no more loneliness – it’s all I want for now. XD

Birthday Fun!! The Big One-Nine!

•July 13, 2009 • 2 Comments

So, yesterday was my 19th birthday, and it was awesome! I went to Jess’ house during the day, and got my Vivienne Westwood style lighter from her (just what I wanted =D), played some TotA, and watched youtube videos – a typical random visit =D. After that, I went to the Casino with my parents and Dillon (my parents paid, of course XD). Dinner was amazing, I’ve never been to such a good buffet, other than maybe the one on the cruise ship. Speaking of which, the entire Casino reminded me of the interior of a cruise ship … big, colourful, bright, etc… My parents gave me some gambling money, to try out the machines, and I ended up turning the 20$ that they gave me into 84$ – a very good profit, if I do say so myself. My gifts were very good, too. I got a nice card and flowers from Dillon (who will probably also take me out for drinks sometime this week), 100$ from my parents, two giant 3-in-1 volumes of Rurouni Kenshin from my sister (the one anime that I’ve never been able to find a good enough quality to watch, but have always wanted to see), money and some necessities from my grandma ( a very cool umbrella being one), plenty of cards from relatives with money – I think that’s it. Oh, and lots of Facebook wishes too – Arigatou, minna! I still need to go out with Ashley sometime, since she promised to take me, along with Ryan & Amy, and the sorority girls – I don’t know when this is all going to happen, but I’ll find time, I’m sure! On another note, I’ve finally got enough money for tuition, so I’m just saving up for books now. After that, I should have a bit more money to spend, before I have to start saving for the winter semester… oi, school sucks.

1st Edit: I got my birthday gift from Alex today – a manga called Nightmare Inspector which looks very awesome – I haven’t heard anything about it, which means I’m the first of my friends to read it, but upon glancing through it it definitely looks awesome, and I can’t wait to read it =D Arigatou, Alex!

Beginning of July.

•July 4, 2009 • 1 Comment

So, July is so far looking to be the best month of my summer. I just saw No Doubt with Paramore and Bedouin Soundclash last night, and they were amazing! We (Janelle, Alayna, Nicole, and I) were a bit late, so we didn’t actually get to our spots in time to see Bedouin Soundclash, but we heard them, and they were good (none of us really know any songs, so it was okay). We raced in as soon as Paramore started though, and they were [pardon my language here] FUCKING INCREDIBLE. I couldn’t believe how good they were – I was breathless the entire time – that may have been due to the fact that we were on the floor, in what generally serves as the mosh pit, but nonetheless, who cares? Then, No Doubt came on. They were amazing as well. They stole my heart, and now I need to buy all the CDs that I have the downloaded songs to, but never actually owned. I still can’t believe I was only 100 ft. away from the bands, it was so hard to believe; it’s just like a dream that I keep replaying in my mind, before looking at the ticket stub and wristband and saying, “Wow, I was actually there.” I bought a 45$ tshirt, and it looks SO GOOD. Also, I got my camera back (today though, it unfortunately wasn’t ready yesterday), and have already started taking tonnes of pictures…and then deleting them because they’re just not right. So, I can officially eat buffet food from the Casino and drink in 8 days, and I don’t know whether I’m excited, or not. I mean, I get to finally get my gift from Jess (one of the only ones this year, I think), and drink in public (I have so many drinks I want to try, eventually) and go dancing with Ashley (who must take me out soon!), but at the same time, it just doesn’t seem like it’s actually going to happen.

Other than that, not much is happening so far. I have this weekend off, so I plan to use it wisely – sleeping, reading, going to a lan (didn’t stay very long, too tired from concert), and going to irritate Alex tomorrow. Should be fun, he never seems to tire of it XD. Josh and I have discovered that we are both the weirdest and oldest couple we know, and it is a good thing. I’ve been working roughly 35 hours a week on the day shift at my new Tim Hortons, and it’s so much better than my old job. It’s a lot less stressful, because I’m not reprimanded for every little thing – be it my fault or not – and I can get away with working slower and not as hard, because I’m new, and therefore “don’t know how to do everything quite yet or where everything is [only the latter part is true XD, but I won't tell them that])”. I’m still on the waiting list for a couple of courses, namely Shakespeare I, but I do have a full course list, and so that way if I don’t get into those waitlist courses I still have enough. Also, I ended up with an A- is my statistics class, so I believe that a round of applause is in order *clapclap*. Well, that’s all for now. Ja ne!

Yeah, so I don’t really know why I’m blogging right now, I have nothing much to say, but I’m also very bored. I just got out of my stats class, and I worked earlier today, so as amazing as it is for me to say, I have nothing to do – it rarely happens. I did just get an email though, saying that Threadless reprinted one of the tees that I fell in love with but never got to buy, so this time I am definitely buying it! I actually forgot that I requested a reprint, and for them to email me if they ever did reprint it – I made the request ages ago, and they finally did it =D Here’s the tee’s design: http://www.threadless.com/product/1062/Candy_Coated_Assassin?utm_source=cms&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Candy_Coated_Assassin&utm_campaign=reprint%20request. Isn’t it amazing? I don’t know quite how I’m going to get it yet – maybe I’ll just do the same thing as last time, and have my dad order it with his credit card for me, and I’ll just pay it back once I know how much the total is – last time I did that with Threadless I went a bit overboard, but they were all cheap. I think, if I buy again this time, I’ll only get one, maybe two shirts. As much as I love them, I’m in the process of getting in shape, so if I buy too many I won’t be able to wear them! I may even just buy them in a smaller size, so that when I’m in shape I can wear them – kind of like a reward for working hard! =D I think I will do that. Wow…guess I had more to say than I thought. >.< Tata for now!

Vacation

•May 28, 2009 • 7 Comments

So, vacation was a nice break from my usual weekend. Unfortunately, it would have cost far too much money to get from downtown Toronto to the Congress Centre, which is where Anime North was, so we couldn’t go – we had a ride there for both days, but no way to get back to Brantford =/. Ah well, I guess there will always be next year (I miss you Jess!!!). For some reason I was thinking that Anime North was at the Toronto Conference Centre, which is downtown, not the Congress Centre, which is quite a bit farther away. Seeing Dillon’s family was nice though, I missed them a lot more than I thought I would, and they all seem very happy up there, in their very nice condo – I think I could happily live in a condo like theirs forever. Friday we just kinda hung out and got to know the area – went to an amazing buffet called King’s – they had good sushi, asian food, salads, soup, pasta…you name it, they probably had it. It was a bit on the expensive side, but sooo worth it – I didn’t need to eat the rest of the weekend! XD. Saturday, instead of going to Anime North, Dillon and I went shopping in downtown Toronto (as did his parents, but we only met up with them at the end to go to Niagara Falls on our way home. I have to admit, I spent a fair bit more money than I thought I would this past weekend, so I thought I’d break it down for my own personal horror:

– Two sundresses (I found two that both looked good,  and made me not look short; I had to buy them) : 160$

– Awesome headband with a bow on it : 10$

– Nana vol. 4, Honey & Clover vol. 2, B.O.D.Y vol. 1, and Nodame Cantabile vol. 1 : 47$

– Wicked green purse with red “flowers” on it : 56$

– Momiji (brand) teacup/ mug: 9$ (both the purse and the mug were at a store that has an online website, and is my new favourite boutique ever).

– Lighter with two entwined hearts on it, a wooden chinese fan : ?$ (gifts from Dillon, he refuses to tell me how much they were. Why I need a lighter, I have no idea, but I guess I’ll use it to light my incense XD).

On another note, Dillon bought an XBox 360, Fable II, and Beautiful Katamari – tomorrow I’m stealing his PS3 to play through Bioshock before his parents come to claim it. All in all, a very good weekend, with only a few sad things, namely:

– Being unable to successfully go to Anime North (thanks to Dillon’s parents and Jess’ for offering us a ride there, but unfortunately there was no way to go back)

– Having horrible stomache pains all weekend (damn cramps!! >.<)

–  Trying to follow Dillon through a revolving door, only to get my arm and the back of my head slammed into it (Dillon was trying to hit Mary with the door…unfortunately, he didn’t realize you can’t hit the person in FRONT of you, only the one BEHIND you).

So, to sum up, vacation was lovely, and I really can’t wait to have more time off like that just to have fun! <33333

Wooo!!! It’s finally here….after working like non-stop everyday for at least two weeks, I now have four days of vacation – OUT OF TOWN!!! I’ve been waiting for so long….unfortunately though, even with all that working, I’ve only got about 300$ to spend at both Anime North and any extra shopping I do (like at the Eaton’s Centre)….I guess that’s still far better than what I started out with….and I can always take out more if I need to. Anime North is just around the corner, and it’s gonna be pretty awesome; I don’t really have any particular things that I want to see (normally I go with Jess and just go see what she wants to, because she has a much more detailed plan of what’s good to do than I), but wandering and buying merchandise is always fun…I’m looking for some sort of paraphanalia to wear around – like a shirt or jewellry or something. Oh, and I finally will get to see the 404s, who everyone says is an amazing group. I need to buy more manga for sure – stupid Chapters never has the volumes I’m on, but they have EVERYTHING else >.< I’m actually kinda excited to take the train, because I haven’t been on one since I was a kid, and I took it with my parents to London for the day – don’t remember much about it though….this time there will be plenty of pictures to remember it~~ too bad I have to write a statistics assignment on the way T-T. Oh yeah, and this font colour is almost the exact same as I want my future car to be – A Volkswagen Beetle in this colour would look awesome, wouldn’t it? Well I guess that’s all for now, I have to go get an allergy shot and go back to statistics class =( Yay for vacation!! I’ve also decided to save up money and eventually buy an Xbox 360 Live. There are a lot of good RPGs on it, and the graphics are amazingly beautiful – also, it has two games on it that use the same system as the muchly anticipated FFXIII, and they look amazing…I need to play them. Dillon says that I would love an Xbox 360, because I would actually find games to play on it (unlike a PS3)….now whether he says that just because he wants one, or because I actually would like it is impossible to tell, but I think I would like it, and it would be worth the 299$ for a new one (it’s so cheap in comparison to PS3 – perfect all around!!!) I may look for used ones at EB Games though, since that would be cheaper. Please support the “Let’s Get Liane An XBox 360 fund by giving me money for my birthday instead of gifts!! [still a ways away, I know, but if I start now, mayhaps I'll have enough by summers end]. That’s it for now!

PS: On a sad note, Mr. Caldwell passed away on May 18th. I never had him for a teacher, but I saw him in the hallways and he was always a very nice person; he also used to curl with my papa, so I like to assume he was similar to him in at least a few ways, and I’m very sad to see him go – R.I.P. Mr. Caldwell, you left behind an amazing legacy, and will never be forgotten by Vincent Massey Secondary. A wonderful and inspiring teacher and person you were, we will always remember you as our quiet giant – larger than life, a silent and inspiring role model to many.

Work…

•May 14, 2009 • 3 Comments

So, I’ve been working everyday this week. I was supposed to visit Massey earlier in the week (either on Tuesday for AMC, or Wednesday because I had nothing to do all that day), but I ended up getting called in to work every single day. Other than today, that is. Today I woke up early to go to the lab for my statistics class, only to find out that we weren’t having it – the teacher didn’t say we would in class, but she also didn’t say that we wouldn’t, so it’s easy to assume we would have it, right? So I woke up early for nothing, and ended up not getting to go to Massey. I can’t even go tomorrow either, because I work from 11am-3pm in the other end of town….I work all weekend too =/ I still don’t know my shifts for next week, but I’ve heard that I’ve got over 20 hours, which means I’ll probably be working Mon-Thurs, before I head off to Brantford with Dillon to visit his parents and go to Anime North…yay! At least I have that to look forward to – I’ll get to buy a lot of manga (probably one of the only things I’ll buy, I don’t need any more plushies), and see almost everyone (other than probably Matt Dickey). I’m looking forward to checking out a few panels, buying some manga, maybe some t-shirts or hats or something…I don’t know what else – I don’t want posters, because I don’t have any more wall space, but I don’t quite know what I want…I guess I’ll just have to wait until I get there to find out….I don’t remember, do the salespeople/register people have debit? If not I’ll have to get some cash before I go XD…I get to take a train for the first time that I’ll actually remember! The last and only time previous to this that I took a train was with my parents to London for the day, but I don’t really remember all of it that well…this time it’s Dillon and I, and I’m definitely bringing my camera! I need to get pictures for myself this year, rather than just steal the ones everyone else took….what else…? Oh yeah, we’re apparently all going to meet up to see the 404s, who I’ve never heard of, but Jess says they’re really good…I guess I’ll have to look them up before I go too…yay!! I can’t wait until next Friday!

Weekends = <3 when I’m not working.

So, this weekend actually ended up being a lot of fun. I got to see Jess and Pei finally, and though we didn’t do anything out of the usual it was nice to just be with old friends again ^-^. I did a lot of biking too, mostly in the southwood lakes area and such – the houses there are so ginormous! Really pretty too, though I don’t think I’d ever be able to fill that much house when I’m older, unless I have like 6 kids and 4 cats XD…not gonna happen (well, the four cats maybe, I do love my kitty…) Compared to the rest of Windsor, that area doesn’t seem to be affected by the economy at all – which, I guess, they really aren’t, not nearly to the extent that the rest of the city was – either way, very nice though. Oh, I also played a lot of FFX-2 today – a few hours worth anyways…I ended up accidentally finishing up ch. 3 (without completing all the missions too – there goes my 100% completion at the end T-T) and got to see the major plot cutscene that I’ve been waiting to get to since I started the game (when it first came out, sadly). Mm, what else happened? Oh yeah, mom screamed at me for not taking a work shift yesterday, because I had plans with Jess and Pei, and dad told her to stop overexaggerating everything, like she usually does, so I’m pretty sure that it all blew over, and we went to Mother’s Day brunch today, at the Chop House in Tecumseh. It was good, not nearly as good as the golf club brunch we used to go to, but since my Papa passed away my grandma’s no longer a member, and so we can’t go now…way too expensive. Umm…I think that was pretty much my weekend, I shall write again sometime this week, maybe after my first encounter with university statistics T-T

~L

PS: I’ve finally actually thought of something that I want for my birthday: a commuter bike! I’ve shown it to my dad (the one/type that I want anyways), and so I’m hoping I may get it as an early birthday gift, or for my birthday, since the bike I have now is crappy and painful to ride.

It’s funny how plans change…

•May 7, 2009 • 3 Comments

It’s funny how fast someone’s day can change. I had my entire day perfectly planned out…I was going to get up earlier than usual and go for a nice bike ride, followed by my usual day, and doing some laundry (eat, shower, get ready for work – it’s all I ever do nowadays). However, I got woken up real early this morning, being told that I had to stay here until the repairmen came – our hot water tank broke this morning, so they were coming to fix it. They were supposed to be here by 9A.M… as you can see by my writing this, it’s almost 10am, and they’re just “on their way” now. Looks like I’ll only get to shower if I’m lucky, laundry will have to wait another day, and the only biking I’ll be doing is rushing to work – goodbye leisurely bike ride… wait, no, can’t do that either – Dillon starts midnights at Tim Hortons tonight, and since I made him take the job there rather than waiting another 2 months for one, I have to drive him in. Oh well….maybe I can do all of these things tomorrow…Well, they’re here now, so hopefully it’s as my dad says and it will take them only about 10 minutes or so to fix it – then I can still bike and shower at least! =D On the plus side, Saturday should be fun – I haven’t seen Pei in forever (last time I saw her was only for an hour around Christmas time – we were supposed to have the whole day together – along with Jess – but I got called in to work, needed the money and couldn’t say no =( ) and the last time I saw Jess was probably when I invaded anime club at Massey a while back – either way it’s been way too long!!
