So, these past couple of weeks have been a little rough. There have been a few positive things, such as my grandma’s 70th birthday party (a surprise one, too – she loved it!). We had all of the family in London to come down for it, along with a lot of her long-time neighbours/friends, and some of the ladies she worked with at Sears. It was at ProBocco (sp?) – a delicious Italian restaurant on Ottawa that my Uncle Ciro’s cousin owns. The food was amazing, the waiters were great, and my grandma had a great time. Lots of gifts, a big party, tonnes of love? Who wouldn’t be happy? She gave a nice speech of thanks (with many tears from her – and a few of us too!) and though Papa couldn’t be there next to us, enjoying the evening, we knew he was looking down at us, and really wanting some tortellini!
Also, I got most of my school supplies, my parking pass, and a few textbooks, so my wallet is feeling a lot lighter – I still don’t have everything =x. I even got a cool blue-square-shaped “white” board, with an “I <3 you lots” from Dillon already written on it, and a Nightmare Before Christmas pencil case with Jack Skellington on it, for like 5$ – kinda lame, I’m sure, but I love it anyways – it’s Tim Burton, I’m allowed to own it. It seems like it’ll be a pretty good semester though. I’m still hoping to get into Shakespeare I with Dr. Johnston, but I know if I don’t I can always try again. My other courses are: Introduction to Geomorphology (Rocks for Jocks), The Modern Novel and Theatre (a French Literature course for my minor), Modern British Literature, Introduction to Psychology as a Social Science, and Contemporary Literary Theory. Seems like a pretty good lineup, though I think I may have trouble paying attention for a few – but I have to, I need to get my marks up around an 11 or 12 on the UWindsor scale, so I can be very impressive towards the UofT admissions people, and they let me into their pretty school <3.
Work has been decent; I have not had an overwhelming amount of hours, but I could be doing worse – I really hope that I can keep the hours I have now (around 25-30/wk), or get even more during the school year, because I do have the time to work that many, and I really could use the money.
On some less positive notes, Dillon is moving to his parents’ place in Brantford tomorrow morning (Wednesday), and so today will be the last day I see him for quite some time – I will email/ call a lot, but it’s just not the same. We’ll be fine though, because we both have plans to do a lot of things to keep busy. Plus, I know I’ll see him during the breaks between his school sessions (he’ll have a few days off, so one of us shall travel to the other), and he hopes to come down during Christmas break, or if he can’t I’ll try to come up before I’m back in school. I won’t see him on his birthday, because I have classes then, but we’ll work something out – I have long weekends all year – 3 days of school, 4 day weekend =D. Then he’ll be back down in March – if he can find a job here – and he’ll be here all summer, until I hopefully go up with him next August to go to the University of Toronto together – or Western, or McMaster.
Also, my Aunt Kathy passed away Sunday night in her sleep. We had just found out that she had cancer, after she fell and became paralyzed from the waist down. Her health had been slowly declining, so we all kind of knew that it would happen eventually, but we were hoping for later, rather than sooner. Regardless of expecting it, it’s still very sad, and we all miss her very much, though we know she is in a better place, and not in pain anymore. We’re having a wake for her Saturday afternoon, but I don’t believe we’re having a funeral – if so, it will be just the family that she lived with (my aunt Simonne, uncle Marcel, and all the kids).
Not the best of weeks, not the worst of weeks – just a long, endless parade of things I wish never had to happen, and things I hope won’t happen again. No more people leaving me, and no more loneliness – it’s all I want for now. XD
~Liane <3.
